April 2021 Update
April 2021 Update – Update for Matson We have written to all residents of Matson with the following update… GCH and Gloucester City Council remain
In March 2017 Gloucester City Homes secured funding of £1.25m from the Government’s Estates Regeneration Fund. This allowed us to consult with both communities, partners and create initial master plans for the regeneration of the Matson and Podsmead estates.

The funding has been used to develop proposals to progressively regenerate these estates, with the aim of:
Providing additional new homes and facilities, designing places where people want to live and visit, supporting a thriving community and improving the quality of life for all residents.
Gloucester City Council, through its new City Plan 2016-2031 has made the renewal of Matson and Podsmead a priority. The first step of the process has been to produce Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) and indicative master plans for each neighbourhood. These SPDs will be used as a guide to development in Matson and Podsmead over the next 15 – 20 years and the master plans, GCH are working on, will provide a basis for any planning applications.
GCH, the City Council, County Council and the City’s MP Richard Graham have jointly committed themselves to work together as partners to bring positive change to Matson and Podsmead by co-ordinating resources, land, planning and community consultation.
In addition, all the partners have signed up to a vision to deliver:
Resident Empowerment / Active Citizenship.
Support tenants to sustain their tenancies.
Reduce Anti-social Behaviour.
Reduce Crime and the fear of Crime.
Better access to training, skills and employment opportunities.
Improved local shops and amenities for residents.
Provide homes that meet the needs of local people.
Create cleaner greener communities and improving the quality and use of green open space.
Improve access to activities and healthcare.
Encourage healthier lifestyles.

The City Council adopted the Supplementary Planning Documents, one for Matson and one for Podsmead, in November 2019.
GCH are working hard to complete revised redevelopment plans for both neighbourhoods based on the comments made by residents at previous consultation events, secure the remaining finance needed to fund them and in consultation with City Council planners, ensure that they are plans that can receive Council support.
These will then be brought back to both communities for you to have your final say. We hope to do that sometime this year subject to the Government lockdown being lifted to allow us to have safe face to face consultations with you at open meetings and where possible in your own home
The Matson, Robinswood and White City Partnership have already produced a Community Socio-economic Plan for Matson and Podsmead Big Local, on behalf of a loose confederation of community organisations on Podsmead, is in the process of producing a Community Socio-economic Plan for Podsmead.
Planned regeneration consultation events for Podsmead and Matson have unfortunately been cancelled, in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
We do intend however to rearrange the events as soon as we can in 2021. In the meantime, as plans for Podsmead are more advanced, we have published our current draft plans online and on community noticeboards.
Keep up to date with the latest developments, news and events here.
