In March 2017 Gloucester City Homes secured funding of £1.25m from the Government’s Estates Regeneration Fund. Its aim is to create a master plan for the regeneration of the Matson and Podsmead estates.
We are working with Matson and Podsmead residents. Along with local agencies, Gloucester City Council, Gloucester County Council, local community groups and a range of other partners. The funding is being used to develop proposals to progressively regenerate these estates. This is with the aim to provide a longer-term offer of additional new homes, further investment and designing places where people want to live, supporting a thriving community and improving the quality of life for all residents.
Gloucester City Council, through its new City Plan 2016-2031 has made the renewal of Matson and Podsmead a priority. The first step of the process is to produce Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPD) and an indicative masterplan for each neighbourhood. These will identify the future layout of each neighbourhood, showing the location of existing and proposed replacement and new housing, improved streets, open spaces and public buildings. The SPD and masterplans will be ‘owned’ by the City Council as part of the City Plan for development. These will be used as a guide to development in Matson and Podsmead over the next 15 – 20 years.
